Ride Space
Jackson, Michigan, is located in the southern half of Central Michigan between Battle Creek and Ann Arbor, in the corridor of I-94.
It has many surprises. Jackson is home the first formal meeting of the Republican Party, which nominated Abraham Lincoln for the presidency in 1860. He discovered later, in Lansing, the only remaining crown of Lincoln's funeral cortege hangs in the Historical Museum in Lansing. The Republican Party in Jackson had given him the crown.
Just outside of Jackson is the space of Michigan and Sciences Center. When thinking of museum space, we generally think in Houston, TX, or the Smithsonian in Washington DC. There are other space museums in throughout the country: Henderson, KS, Alamogordo, NM, and even Chicago, IL, at the Museum of Science and Industry. Within a geodesic dome is a great Apollo spacecraft, a Moon rock shows of life in space exploration vehicles and space shuttles.
There are many activities for both children and adults, as full motion flight simulators, 3-D Space Shuttle Ride, 4-D Theater Missions, Montgolfier Balloon Race, Flying Circus Bi-plane Ride, Space Walk, Zero Gravity experience, Magic Planet, Space Ball, and the Mission to Mars. Several of the astronauts have their roots in the Jackson area.
Jackson also was one of the many stations underground railroad during the mid-nineteenth century. Many churches and mansions still exist at the time. One of them, the principal of Sharp She has become in a historic, museum showing life in the nineteenth century farmhouse.
