Robotics Limit
In 2005 we saw some innovations in robotics used in transport. We have seen conflicts arise with the unions on road and rail locomotives, which do not need drivers. We have seen more and more telematic type information and communication flowing between the satellite trucks and across the road dispatchers. We have seen new mechanisms that dispatchers can use to track shipments a few meters from their location, including complete closure of the trucks, which have been kidnapped.
Then we saw the DARPA Grand Challenge driverless vehicles, totally self-navigate steep cliffs, tunnels and highways treacherous desert full of obstacles in a course of more than 200 miles long and yet the average speed of nearly 35 mph. In 2005 we have seen television advertisements for cars new ones that can avoid collisions, detect stopped traffic ahead, even strained shoulder harness and let the gas, the push direction, while check the traffic lane in the case of a slower vehicle in your lane.
In 2006 we will see military convoys seeking help with any link vehicle without a driver in any vehicle. We will see automotive engineers discuss programmable GPS systems, which not only shows the destination on a map, but there is unity in, find a parking space and parallel park your car without running a red light, breaking the speed limit or flip out of other drivers on the road, with a newspaper, watch the news and make a few phone calls. Think I'm joking, I'm not, this is the next step and in 2006, this is what automotive engineers will be working on, so think about it, as four or five years will be a reality.
